Mamfe Diocese: Rev. Fr. Dieudonné Akawung quits priesthood

BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA

Rev. Fr. Dieudonné Akawung Tazisong, a former priest of the Mamfe Diocese, has officially resigned from Catholic priesthood after receiving permission from Pope Francis to be released from his vow of calibacy.

According to a communique signed by the Bishop of Mamfe +Aloysius Abangalo Fondon dated Monday, February 20, 2023 states that sometime ago, Rev. Fr. Dieudonné Akawung Tazisong, priest of the Diocese of Mamfe, humbly requested from Pope Francis the dispensation from sacared calibacy and from all other obligations connected with scared Ordination to the priesthood.

In response, His Holiness Pope Francis, through a Rescript of Dispensation, graciously granted the request. “By this letter, therefore, I wish to bring to your notice that Rev. Fr. Dieudonné Akawung Tazisong has been removed the clerical state." Bishop Aloysius Abangalo Fondon said in a statement.

Removal from the clerical state means that in accord with Canon Law, Fr. Dieudonné Akawung Tazisong is no longer incardinated in the Diocese of Mamfe, and he remains excluded the exercise of sacared ministry anywhere, with the exception of those circumstances mentioned in canons 976 and 986,§2.

Bishop Aloysius Abangalo Fondon has exhorted the Diocese of Mamfe to kindly pray for Mr. Dieudonné Akawung Tazisong to continue to take part in the life of the People of God in a manner consonant with his new status as a layperson, to give a good example, and thus show himself a proven son of the Church.

It should be noted that reasons for his resignation were not disclosed and attempt to get further details from bishop house were futile.
