Promoting cultural heritage and living together, all roads lead to Wovia Village today

Under the patronage of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Bidoung Kpwatt Ismael the 2022 maiden edition of the Wovia clan cultural festival which started from 6 December, 2022 will end today Saturday December 10, 2022 in Wovia village Hall. The event is dubbed “Uniting the Wovia Clan through culture” with Motto: ‘Moto Moko Mboa Fpoko’.


The Wovia clan cultural festival is annual gathering of the Wovia(Bota people) to unite the Wovia clan through culture. Activities shall include: Sports Walk, Ecumenical Service, Launching of the Cultural Village, Story Telling, Fashion Parade and Vernacular Quiz.


The Wovia (Bota)indigenes are the people who settled on the islands along the coast of Victoria, from Limbe III through Limbe I to Limbe II Subdivisions, respectively.


This festival will be a gathering, and showcase of a rich cultural heritage by the natives of the Wovia Clan islands and villages of Wovia wo Mboa Mwanja (Bota Island), Wovia wo Ndame, Wovia wo Mondoli, and Wovia wo Molondi (Botaland).


The purpose of the festival is to strengthen the bond between the natives of the Wovia clan and to preserve disappearing aspects of our culture such as the language, traditions, ancestral meals, fishing, traditional sports and dances.


From Wovia, Botaland, Mondoli and Ndame, the Wovia Clan's rich cultural heritage will be displayed through Exhibition of Arts, Traditional Meals, Traditional Dances and Games such as the Canoe Race, Wrestling, Tug of War, Musical Concert among others.


According to HM Chief Osward Njombo Ekomboni I Chairperson of the Wovia clan cultural festival, the festival is organized by the chiefs of the four villages, Wovia Wo Ndame, Wovia Wo Mondoli and Wovia Wo Mboamwanja.


He added that the aim of the festival is to bring back the unity of Wovia clan, togetherness of the Bota man, discuss the dying of cultural clan and look for a way forward, visit of the various Islands.


“Come discover the culture of the Wovia clan, its villages, traditions and history as the indigenous tribe of Limbe which bravely resisted slave trade and colonization.” Chief Osward Njombo said.


“It’s good to identify what your forefathers gave you, we have started going back to the root, so we are calling on everyone to go back to the root”,


“If we go back to the root, we’ll realized the rich culture of Cameroon as we say Cameroon is Africa Miniature”Chief Osward Njombo explained.


Chief Osward Njombo urged the population of Wovia clan, Limbe II, Limbe municipality, South West Region and Cameroon in general to come out massively today to see the hind talents of the Bota man.
