The first Limbe I female Mayor is a household name in Fako Division and South West in general in terms of her developmental work carried out in her municipality.
It is in this light, KNews team thought it wise to find out from her to threw more light on the multipurpose Youth Center she was recently applauded by Minister, Mounouna Foutsou for a job well done.
Mayor Mbwaye sat down with KNews, CEO Simon Ndive Kalla in this interesting chat. Read!!!
Good day, Madam and thank you for the privilege to have you for this exclusive interview.
You are welcome. It is a pleasure having you around Limbe I Council
The Minister of Youths Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou on Saturday applauded you for a job well done, how do you feel?
Thank you so much, I feel so good for constructing and edifice like that. That structure is one out of many. It has taken us much time for us to have a project like that under the Ministry of Youth Affairs.
So, when we constructed that structure building in 2022, we handed over to the Chief of Center Youth Affairs. So when we heard that the Minister was coming to inaugurate it, we’re happy because we know that after the inauguration we’ll just remove our hands from there.
The Minister came on that Saturday and it was wonderful. The Minister was so impressed. He thanked me so much for the building that he met and the compound was well kept, the building was well painted and all the rooms as stated by their Ministry, he met everything intact, so he was so happy.
I’m happy because, I know the building will occupy the youths in Limbe I Municipality. We are embarking to furniture it with equipment, so that the youths can occupy themselves in various disciplines that’s ICT, sewing among others. So we’re happy for the building in Town.
You could see all the youths on that day, they were very happy. So we want to thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and we want to thank the Head of State for the edifice.
What are some of the challenges you encountered during this project?
Well the challenges were enormous, the money allocated for the project was small. When the credit card came in 2022 many of my colleagues mayors refused to handle the project because even the contractors didn’t accept to take the project but Tiko and myself decided to put it in phases and so as you see the building, I struggled to put up the structure and phase two will be equipping it with furnitures.
It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of letter writing to the Minister and the delegate and so on. We did not find it easy, even the contractor who finally accepted to do the work suffered a lot.
We were awarded this project after two weeks the Ministry sent us a format of the structure. So, it wasn’t easy for us to carry on the format the Ministry sent to us.
I took it as a challenge that I must do something so, I had to put on the structure that you see the Minister came to inaugurate, the challenges were so many but I struggled to put up something so the second face now, we shall be writing for furnitures for the Center.
On that day I appealed to the Minister that we need a fence all round the structure. We can’t have a magnificent structure like that and it’s not fenced. It means we are living it out to vandals.
Those are the challenges we faced but as a female Mayor and a mother, I struggled to put on something and the minister was so happy with me, I want to thank God very much thank you…..
What message do you have for the youths of your municipality
As I read my speech on that day, I told the youths I have done my part, it’s left to them to make good use of that structure. So, I tell the youths in my municipality that they should come there and put up various court. Putting up a handball court will not take cost them anything.
The youths of Limbe I Municipality should come and see what they can do with the structure before we start thinking of putting the various equipment needed.
