Kenko Foundation in partnership with the regional Coordinator of Tuberculosis, Southwest on Thursday, March 24, 2022 observed the World Tuberculosis Day with inmates at the Buea Central Prison.
Kenko Foundation Coordinator, Ray Che Nji said during the inmates health campaign that despite TB bring a vaccine preventable disease the outreach was necessary to educate the inmates about the impact of the disease.
He said the more people know about TB the lesser the burden on the society.He called on more awareness to ensure cases are reportedly at an early stage.
He underlined that TB is spread from person to person through the air when people with TB cough, sneeze or spit and people need to only have a few germs to be infected.
He said any cough that last more than two weeks is a TB suspect and must be checked immediately as TB is only curable when defected.
On his part, the Regional Coordinator of Tuberculosis, Southwest, Dr Paul Meoto said the day is meant to raise public awareness about the consequences of TB and to step up efforts to eradicate the epidemic.
This year's World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated under the theme " Invest in TB to save lives"
