Limbe I Council emerges champion in inter-service football tourney

Limbe I Council has emerged winner of the 2026 edition of the Limbe Inter-Service Football Tournament after defeating Limbe City Council 2-0 in a thrilling finals match played on Monday, 18 May, 2026, at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.
The tournament, organised ahead of Cameroon’s National Day celebrations, drew top administrative, municipal and security authorities of the Fako Division.
Present during the finals were the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako and his entourage, the Mayor of Limbe City Council, Mayors and Divisional Officers of the Limbe municipalities, the Commander of the Fako Army Forces and other invited guests.
The tournament, which brought together 11 teams from state institutions and public services, formed part of activities marking the 54th edition of Cameroon’s National Day celebration.
Limbe I Council secured victory with two second-half goals in a highly competitive encounter that kept supporters cheering throughout the match.
While handing over the trophy to the winners, the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako congratulated all participating teams and praised the spirit of participation and collaboration demonstrated throughout the tournament.
“We organize this competition to promote national unity and patriotism. The most important thing is participation and working together,” the SDO stated.
He added that the tournament was organized to strengthen national integration and encourage public services to work together in harmony while showcasing love for the country.
The SDO equally called on the population to come out massively for the National Day celebrations and announced that a unity walk would take place ahead of the May 20 festivities.
Speaking after the victory, the Mayor of Limbe I Council, Mayor Mbwaye Eposi Florence, said the competition was intended to promote unity, togetherness and patriotism among workers and the population.
“Football is a game of unity, oneness and togetherness. The objective of this competition was to show that Cameroon is one and indivisible,” she said.
She further called on the population to massively participate in activities lined up for the National Day celebrations, including the unity walk and the May 20 march past.
Mayor Mbwaye also attributed the team’s success to the spirit of unity reigning within Limbe I Council, noting that teamwork and solidarity contributed greatly to the victory.
At the end of the finals, prizes and medals were awarded to outstanding participants including referees, the best coach, best player, top goal scorer and man of the match.
Limbe City Council received the second prize comprising medals and a cash reward of 40,000 FCFA, while Limbe I Council took home the trophy, medals and a cash prize of 70,000 FCFA.
Special prizes were equally handed to para-athletes, physically challenged participants and their association president.
Teams that participated in the tournament included Limbe I Council, Limbe City Council, MINDCAF, MINSANTE, SONARA, A.S Police, SOCADEL, CAMTEL, CUSTOMS, MINESEC and MINDEF.
The best coach of the tournament went to Limbe I Council Victor Libwea while the man of the man award went to Limbe City Chief Of Cabinet, captain Liombe Lesley. Other individual prizes were dished out.
