Far North Region: Gov’t offers humanitarian aid to Mousgoum, Arab Choa communities

The Minister of Territorial and Administration, Paul Atanga Nji on Wednesday December 16, 2021 offered a consignment of humanitarian gifts to Mousgoum and Arab Shoa communities of Logone-et-Chari Division of the Far North region. This gesture is coming few days after the inter-conflict that break out between both communities.


The Mousgoum and Arab Choa conflicts saw the lost of heavy properties and casualties. The promotion of peace and unity was highly preached by the elites of both communities.


As a result of three inter-conflict crisis, many Mousgoum have migrated to the neighboring Chad. There by creating a food crisis in the Chadian territory.


According to Minister Atanji Paul, the communities have accept each other and learn how to live as one. As well as learn how to be law abiding.

It is within that frame work that, the MINATD Boss, held a security meeting on Thursday December 16, with the local administrators. It should be noted the farme-grazing conflict has always been a major problem between both communities.


It should be noted that, the inter-community clashes which, according to the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, left 22 people dead and around 30 injured.


UNHCR and authorities had been leading reconciliation efforts in Kousseri since last week, during which representatives of the communities committed to put an end to the violence. But without urgent action to address the root causes of the crisis, the situation could escalate further.

UNHCR is calling for an immediate end to the violence and for the support of the international community to assist the victims and refugees. Clashes between herdsmen and fishermen who disagree over the management and use of water broke out on December 5, 2021 in Kousseri, leading to the departure of over 30,000 people to Chad.
