FoG champions Christmas season in Limbe As Clergy pray for return of peace in NW, SW

BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA

Christians in Limbe will join the Nation in less than two weeks from now to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. It is in this line that Friends of the Limbe Botanic Garden, FoG, on Sunday, December 4, 2022 launched the Christmas season at Botanic Garden by lightning the Christmas tree.

Speaking during the event, the representative of the Senior Divisional Officer, the First Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Wirkom Maryline Yefon, told the population to appreciate God for seeing them through January to December as many have longed to see, but could not make it.

She added that the lighting of the Christmas tree was a symbol of unity, peace, prosperity and harmony in the region and Cameroon in general.

Yefon thanked, the Friends of the Garden for the laudable initiative. She opined that as FoG has started, it is going to be a good Christmas season for everyone.

During his exaltation drawn from Luke 2:8-14 Rev. Dr. Ndeley Samuel, Senior Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church Bota, Limbe said God is pleased with all of them. He emphasised on peace and reconciliation.

“I use this opportunity to tell everyone who’s in hostility either with the Nation, Government, Family, brothers who because of the crisis, are in the forest, should know that Christmas is a time of peace and reconciliation.

“They should come back home, make peace and seek reconciliation with everyone. So that the work of salvation which Jesus Christ brought to this world will also be administered to them.” Dr. Ndeley Samuel beckoned.

For his part, the President of the Friends of Limbe Botanic Garden Dr. Mbome Njie, said “It is the time of the year when friends and families come together to celebrate with joy and spread happiness to each other”.

He applauded the population for joining Friends of the Limbe Botanic Garden to share love with them in spite of all the negativity that is spreading around the world and the difficulties and challenges.

“We must have encountered all through the year, the time has come to appreciate God's perfect gift to humanity that teaches us to make sacrifices, to love and to share with each other.” Dr. Njie Mbome added.

It should be noted that one of the popular traditions on which Christmas is centered, is decorating Christmas trees with light. The Christmas tree is considered to be a symbol of Christ. Decorating a Christmas tree is considered to be an ancient custom that reminds everyone of how valuable life is.

“The Friends of the Garden want all of us here present, representing the city of Limbe to symbolically share the lighting with one another because it is stronger and more inspiring when we do it together.

“For Christians we do it in fellowship remembering what Martin Luther, the great reformer, once said, "When I'm alone in my room trying to pray, my faith is often dried up within me.

He stated that Friends of the Garden acknowledged that the society has so much darkness. “We thank you for joining us to light up our relationships and light up the city of Limbe“. Dr. Mbome Njie said.

For his part, Conservator of Limbe Botanic Garden said, there was no area that was supposed to host the Christmas tree lighting rather than the Limbe Botanic Garden. He added that the Garden is a legacy of over 130 years now.

“The Limbe Botanic Garden is the sole garden in Cameroon and one of the greatest in the whole Sub-Saharan Africa, recognised by its monument, and rich biodiversity. Initially it was bigger than this but has reduced to 48 hectares.” He lamented.

He thanked FoG for launching the Christmas season in the garden and for promoting the garden.
