HRH Chief Fonderson Henry has beseeched the Divisional Officer for Limbe I Subdivision Moni Innocent Nanje to put an end to land impostors in Meveo Chiefdom.
He made this clarion call on Saturday April 2, 2022 during the meet-the-people-tour of the Divisional Officer for Limbe I Subdivision.
“The major challenge of the Meveo people today is what resembles witchcraft in broad daylight, as a group of impostors have in recent days been parading our central village with boundary pillars and military weapons, intimidating our farming tenants, measuring and allocating large portions of lands to potential clients, threatening to eliminate our farming tenants if they dare to tamper with their illegally planted pillars”,
“The said impostors who are said to be led by a military BIR officer, have already sold very large portions of our village territory, even portions covered with Land Certificates claiming that parts of our village territory have been cut off by the Administration (including my late father’s grave), re-created under their various Chiefdoms and appointed them as Chiefs of the said areas”. Chief Ndiko Fonderson explained.
He lamented that if the Administration does not put an end to this quagmire, the seeds of discord already sown may grow so big and tall to handle by our local administration. He revealed that there are already close to 10 Judicial matters both in the Fako High Court and the Limbe Court of 1st Instance related to the said encroachment and territorial conflicts.
“Complaints have been forwarded to appropriate quarters, regarding the above but we also need your intervention as Divisional Officer for Limbe I whose territory is under encroachment”,
“We are therefore calling on the Divisional Officer for Limbe I in particular and the Administration of Fako Division in General, to hasten up and find lasting solutions to the Chieftaincy and Territorial disputes surrounding the Limbe I Sub Division in particular and Fako Division in General, for us to live in peace and harmony once again as one people”. Chief Fonderson said.
Welcoming the Divisional Officer and his entourage Chief Ndiko Fonderson said Meveo mé Mbenge or better still Lower Meveo, is a village that had suffered rural exodus around early 1930’s due to developmental encroachment by the then West African Plantations Victoria (CDC).
The villagers were first transferred from today’s Moliwe plantation to the Meveo Chop Farm (which is we are sitted today) and later again pushed from the Meveo Chop Farm into the Meveo Native Forest across the Meveo River.
The Meveo Native forest was not suitable for the indigenous people due to the hilly nature and rough terrain, so the Meveo people migrated into neighboring villages such as Ewongo, Bonadikombo, Bwinga etc just to name but these.
Since the reinstitution of the Chiefdom in 2007, the borne contempt has been amongst other issues, the difficulty to regain the territorial rights from some over 500 non-native farmers who have been cultivating food crops in their God given soil free of charge for decades, as we wasted many years on litigation, and also physical and spiritual conflicts.
“Wasted years I say, due to acts of litigation and counter litigation, assaults, fetish practices, destruction of crops and houses perpetrated by some extremist non-native farmers who vowed never to respect the property rights of the Meveo People.” Chief Ndiko Fonderson stated.
Chief Ndiko Fonderson regretted the fact that the all African Christian University Institute, worth 1,3 billion francs structure which is already at about 25% construction has been put on hold due to the so called Anglophone crisis. He also cited Meveo village community hall project. Which is 35 Million francs project is part executed by them to the tune of about 8million. He used the medium to request the support of the Limbe I Council to complete this project. “The said project will enable the farmers to have a basic farm market in Meveo as the Community Hall will include stores to harbor harvested food crop, awaiting for traders from Douala and elsewhere. We therefore use this opportunity to remind the Lord Mayor of the Limbe I Council about our application tendered earlier this year regarding the hall.” Chief Ndiko Fonderson said. On his part, the Divisional Officer for Limbe I Subdivision Moni Innocent Nanje urged the population of Meveo to educate their children to leave the bushes and come back home and develop the village. He stressed on the fact that due to the ongoing conflict has led to economic constraints and insecurity in the village. Regarding the plights raised by the Chief, he said he is going to seek for a lasting solution tract down the impostures of their native land.
