CDC Board chair beseeches Gov’t to maintain CDC on its portfolio

BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA The Board chair of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, Hope Sona Ebai has urged the government to continue to maintain CDC on its portfolio as the Corporation intends to expand the Banna sector. The Board chair made this statement at the close of an Annual General Assembly Meeting, AGM in Bota, Limbe on Wednesday August 18, 2021. “I must say the Board meeting is holding behind schedule because of the changes we had in CDC in terms of the appointment of the new Board chairman that required some time that review some internal issues before convening this board meeting. So basically

, it’s to look at the performance indicators in the past year the budget and how the budget was consumed and the reports of the auditors. That’s what this particular board meeting was about.’’ Hope Sona explained. He added that they have approved the accounts as haven reflected a true nature of the Corporation and they took notes of the extremely difficult situations under which the CDC is functioning today because of the socio-political crisis in the North West and South West that’s reflected in the performance indicators. ‘’To CDC this is a huge socio-economic role in both South West and North West Regions. Both Governors were here for this meeting, that the government will continue to maintain CDC on its portfolio because we think with the improvement of security situations improve, we can turn things around for the betterment of CDC and the country at large’’ Hope Sona stated.

He added that there is no improvement in the budget as such it’s not really the objective. The budget is there, but the realisation of the budget is something else and the budget is realised within a certain socio-political content that make it difficult for them to achieve a lot of the goals that have been set. ‘But we are optimistic that as the security situation improves we would be able to expand and apply some of the activities that we programmed for which the budget was resting’ Hope Sona articulated.

He added that he has been briefed on the situation of unpaid salaries and management is doing the best it can based on the school calendar to make sure that they will be able to provide something financially for the workers to enable them send their kids back to school.

Quizzed on the message to the workers he puts it in two fronts. Number one, those who are working, they are beginning to realised with the improvement in the security situation that the sales are improving, so salary payments and other wages, there’s a real arrears, but at least they will begin to take care of more and more regular basis.

‘For those who are waiting for employment, the government has encouraged us to negotiate with some partners as to bring more workers on board. That’s the y should have hope that they will be called back to work as things open.’ Hope Sona explained.

He revealed that the Corporation is making deals to expand the Banna sector project that will bring in some more workers especially those who are skilled in the banana sections. ’We are also instructions to maybe diversify our crops to short cycle crops that will be able to yield Fast turnover’ Hope Sona said.
